Betrayed and assaulted by lover, television actress commits suicide in Hyderabad

With crimes against women on the rise in the city, in another tragic incident, a 26 year old woman allegedly died by suicide in the Gandhinagar area of Hyderabad on the night of Tuesday.

According to reports, the woman was a television actress by profession and worked with a private TV channel. She was committed romantically with her co-star since the past 2 years.

The woman, whose identity has not been revealed, was a resident of Gandhinagar area and had intentions of marrying her colleague with whom she was in a relationship.

As evil as he could be, the man used her for his desires and sexually assaulted her which compiled of many instances. The woman stayed with him as he’d used the promise of marrying her as a ploy. However, when she finally put him down to speak regarding their marriage plans, he ruthlessly refused to tie the knot with her. This sank the woman into depression and built up her trauma. Not being able to cope up with the betrayal, the woman ended her life.

Sub-inspector of Gandhinagar police station, S Mallesh said, “Her family members told us that they were in a relationship for almost two years and she had planned to marry him. However, he, on the pretext of marrying her, sexually abused her on several instances and later refused to marry her, following which she slipped into depression. She hanged herself to death.”

Torn by the loss of the daughter of their clan, the victim’s family members informed the police and registered a complaint against the man who abused her for years.

Following the FIR, the police booked a case under sections 376 (Rape), 420 (Cheating and dishonesty) and 306 (Abetment of suicide) of the Indian Penal Code against the man.

The deceased’s body has been sent to Osmania General Hospital for post-mortem. Further investigations and the cause of death will be found post receiving the reports from the autopsy. As of now, the man is going to be arrested and will be interrogated.

Section 376 serves the guilty a punishment of a minimum of 7 years jail and maybe even life imprisonment, along with a fine. Section 420 books persons for cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property. Maximum punishment served for this crime is 7 years with a fine. Section 306 is against people who encourage a person or trigger them to commit suicide. They can be imprisoned for upto 10 years and be penalized a hefty fine.
