Hyderabad: The Cyber fraudsters are hosting fake websites in Google and giving their mobile numbers as customers care service numbers of all companies and cheating the citizens to the tune of several lakhs of rupees.
Generally, whenever any person, who is in need of any customer care service search in Google and calls on a mobile number, the fraudster immediately responds and informs the caller that they are offering genuine customer care services for that company. When the caller believes the fraudster as genuine company staff and furnishes whatever the bank card/account details requested by the fraudster including OTP, UPI PIN, Net Banking Password, etc, the fraudsters transfer the amount from the victim’s account to their wallets.
In a recent case reported in Cyber Crime Police Station, Cyberabad, the victim ordered for sweets worth Rs 200 from Zomato App. When the sweets that were delivered to him were found with a foul smell, he searched for the customer care service of Zomato in Google. Upon which he found a mobile number (9330017233) as the customer care service for Zomato.
Immediately, he called that number and informed them for the return of the said product and to resolve the issue. Upon which the fraudster asked the complainant to send the details of his bank account and UPI PIN number. Accordingly, the complainant shared all the details in anticipation of the return of sweets and the amount of Rs 200 to him. Instead of Rs 200, an amount of Rs 70,000 was debited from the account of the complainant. Similarly, several cases of fake Google customer care services are reported every day at cyber crime police stations.
The Cyber police advised the citizens not to search any customer care service numbers of any company for redressal in Google and never share card details like OTP, UPI PIN Number and Net Banking password with any of the customer care service staff. No original customer care service of any company asks you for the bank account/card details/OTP details. Give your complaint to the customer care service of a company either by mail or through their toll-free number available in their website or application.
