Bharat Rashtra Samithi likely to focus on farmers’ issues

Farmers’ issues, such as free power, are likely to be a focus of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi, based on previous statements made by Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao.

The Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) changed its name to ‘Bharat Rashtra Samithi’ (BRS) on Wednesday, signaling the party’s entry into national politics.

Rao met with representatives of farmers’ unions from various states in several rounds, and the meeting adopted a unanimous resolution to form a National Farmers’ United Forum to ensure the implementation of the Telangana government’s farmer welfare schemes across the country.

Rao had previously promised to provide free power to farmers across the country if a non-BJP government was elected in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

In defense of his statement, he stated that extending free power to all farmers in the country would only cost Rs 1.45 lakh crore.

He stated it was a small sum in comparison to the Rs 12 lakh crore bank loans, which were ‘written off’ in the name of Non-performing Assets (NPA) to different corporate houses.

The party leader has also repeatedly emphasized the importance of maximizing the utilization of river waters in the country, which are otherwise ‘wasted’ due to the lack of foresight of the current NDA and previous UPA governments at the Centre.

The BRS is also likely to highlight Telangana’s welfare programs, such as ‘Rythu Bandhu’ investment support schemes for farmers, ‘Rythu Bima’ life insurance for farmers, and other initiatives in the agriculture sector.

The renamed party would also present the nation with the ‘Dalit Bandhu’ (a Rs 10 lakh per household grant to Dalits).

The KCR-led government recently issued an order increasing the quota for Scheduled Tribes to 10% from the current 6%. Despite the fact that a resolution was passed by the state Assembly in 2017 and sent to the President for approval, it was not cleared by the union government.

Speaking to the media after the renaming event, Telangana Minister E Dayakar Rao stated that the Chief Minister’s intention is to take the TRS to a national level, even though the TRS symbol and color will remain the same.

Satyavathi Rathod, another minister, stated that the welfare schemes implemented in Telangana would be replicated throughout the country.
