In view of the ongoing pandemic, Amazon Inc. has announced the flexibility option for its employees. In its statement, the company gave permission to the ones who can work from home to do so until June of next year.
The update has relieved many employees that were concerned about their safety due to the virus ready on the fields to gather lives in its kitty.
Terming the statement as a globally applicable one, a spokesperson of Amazon released an email reading, “Employees who work in a role that can effectively be done from home are welcome to do so until June 30, 2021.”
Previously, the allowance to WFH was provided till January 2021, again owing to the pandemic.
The revised option came to the surface after less than three weeks passed since the company exclaimed that over 19,000 of its frontline employees in the US had got infected with the deadly virus.
In the past months, criticizing Amazon’s decision of making workers continue their job despite the dreadful situation, a few of its staff members, officials, and people associated, had called out the company. They held it responsible for putting the employees’ health at the forefront by keeping their warehouses open for customers instead of shutting them down during a time when every life is at great risk.
Answering the criticism with the new feasible option for the workers, Amazon’s spokeswoman said, “We have invested significant funds and resources to keep those who choose to come to the office safe through physical distancing, deep cleaning, temperature checks, and by providing face coverings and hand sanitizer.”
With this, Amazon becomes one of the many multi-million dollar giants to give access to the people who work for them. Previously in March, Twitter Inc. started encouraging its employees to work from home and later provided the option to its employees (whose work can be completed remotely) to work from home indefinitely. This made Twitter the first major business house to give the opportunity for a permanent WFH option.
Various other tech companies to have now come forward announcing their own terms of WFH benefits for their employees. Earlier this month, Microsoft Corp offered most of its workers the flexible option of working remotely from home for a maximum duration of half of their usual weekly hours.
Following suit, Facebook Inc. declared WFH allowance for its employees until July 2021 while similarly, tech giant Google gave the choice of working from home to its employees till June next year. This again applies for those workers whose work can be managed at home without their necessary presence at the office.
Google was not only the first company to announce the WFH option, but it also gave a home allowance of $1000 to all its employees. This was valid for the entire fraternity of workers in the various countries it is set up.
With the pandemic robbing the employment status of millions of hard-working people around the world, the WFH option provided by many of such big business houses has allowed the continued source of income to earn the bread and butter for the substantial livelihood of the employees working for them.
