Hyderabad: The BJP leaders from the state on Wednesday called on the governor Tamilisai Sounderarajan and lodged a complaint with her against the approval of an anti-CAA, NRC and NPR resolution by TRS led state government in the Legislative assembly. Among other things, the BJP leaders requested the Governor to instruct the Chief Minister to call for a special session of the Assembly to withdraw the TS Assembly resolution against CAA and NPR.
A delegation led by BJP senior leader Dr. K. Laxman called on the governor. It consisted of other party leaders like Dr. G. Vivek Venkatswami, MLC N. Ramachander Rao and Motkupally Narasimhulu.
Speaking to media persons later, Laxman asked the CM KCR and his son KTR if they were supporting the Muslims of Pakistan. He alleged that the anti-CAA resolution was passed by the CM to win the praise from his party’s ally MIM.
The BJP leaders in their representation to Governor, requested her take expeditious action to rein in the government of Telangana, which chose to flout the constitutional propriety and the spirit of a federal structure for petty polemics.
“As you are aware, the TS Assembly passed a resolution on March 16 , against the Citizenship Amendment Act of 2019, CAA, National Population Register, NPR and the National Register of Citizens (NRC). The resolution alleges that the CAA and NPR and the non-existent NRC would tinker with the inclusive and non-religious nature of the citizenship. The occasion was used by the members and certain political parties and the Chief Minister himself to spread misconceptions and lies on CAA and NPR.
The Chief Minister, in particular, made misleading statements that are potentially incendiary. The issue of conferring citizenship or rejecting a plea thereof is purely the domain of the Union Government under Articles 5 to 11 of the Indian Constitution. Neither the state governments nor the assemblies have any mandate here”, they said.
“CAA is a historical necessity. While CAA is nothing to do with the Muslims of India, Chief Minister’s statement creates apprehensions in their minds now and thus creates wedge amongst communities. Further, the Chief Minister says National Population Register (NPR) is arbitrary and meant to isolate a section of people is criminally misleading”, they pointed out, and request her intervention to protect the constitution and ensure that the attempts of the vested interests to orchestrate animosity amongst the communities are repulsed.
They also wanted the Governor instruct the Government to co-operate to commence the NPR in the state as envisaged from April 1, Advise the Chief Minister and all his cabinet colleagues to refrain from spreading misconceptions amongst the people in a manner that spreads animosity and hatred; and instruct the Chief Minister to tender unconditional apology for deliberately misleading the people of the state.
