BJP wants to take India back to the era of riots: Asaduddin Owaisi

In a statement on Wednesday, AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi condemned the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) over the Gyanvapi mosque dispute, saying it wants to return the country to the riots of the 1990s.

Similarly, the AIMIM chief took issue with a court order that ordered the Gyanvapi mosque area to be sealed where ‘Shivlings’ were found by the Hindu side during the survey, and said the court’s order was “wrong”.

ANI quoted Owaisi as saying, “The Supreme Court’s ruling states that Muslims are allowed religious observance, so we can practice wazu there. It is a fountain. In this case, all the fountains of the Taj Mahal must be shut off. The BJP wants India to revert to the 1990s when riots broke out.”

In a decision handed down by the Varanasi court earlier on Monday, the district administration was directed to seal the survey spot inside the complex where allegedly ‘Shivling’ has been discovered by the survey team.

On Tuesday, the Supreme Court heard the Gyanvapi mosque case and directed the Varanasi district magistrate to ensure the area where a shivling is purportedly located is protected without interfering with the Muslim community’s right to worship.

The AIMIM chief was asked about Hardik Patel’s resignation as the Gujarat Congress Committee’s working president. “The Congress ruled Maharashtra for 15 years, but it has now become a third-ranking party while in Delhi it is nowhere to be seen. Its members are leaving. The Gujarat working president (Hardik Patel) has no confidence in the unofficial president, so he left,” he said.

Hardik Patel, who had resigned from the party on Wednesday, took a potshot at the state Congress leadership, saying they are more concerned with making sure Delhi leaders receive their ‘chicken sandwiches’ on time.
