BTech student sets himself on fire at college premises in Ibrahimpatnam

In a shocking incident, an engineering student set himself on fire at a private college in Ibrahimpatnam on Wednesday.

The student has been identified as Vamshi who is pursuing his engineering CSC third year course. He arrived at the college premises carrying a bottle of sanitizer in the morning and poured the liquid over himself and set himself ablaze. After noticing the fire, the college staff rushed to his aid and shifted him to the hospital after dousing the flames.

“In our preliminary enquiry we found that the Vamshi was into friendship with a girl and over some issues differences came up between them. He might have slipped into depression due to which he attempted to end his life,” said Ibrahimpatnam police.

It was reported that Vamshi’s father lives in South Africa and his mother is in Karimnagar. He reportedly called some of his friends the night before to thank them for their support with his studies and personal life.

He arrived at college around 9 a.m. According to the police, he sprinkled sanitizer on himself and lit a matchstick 15 minutes later. He received severe burns before the college staff and other students doused the flames. The police said that the incident occurred outside the college administrative building.

A case has been booked by the police.
