C-Vigil App: Reporting Electoral Violations Made Easy

The Election Commission of India took a significant step towards ensuring free and fair elections by introducing the C-Vigil app. This innovative app empowers citizens to report poll-related violations swiftly and efficiently. To utilize the app, citizens are required to have their phone’s GPS turned on at the time of uploading photos or videos capturing any election-related misconduct.

One notable feature of the C-Vigil app is the anonymity it offers to complainants. They are not obligated to enter their personal details, as their information is securely stored within the group. In cases of election code of conduct violations, citizens can upload photos or videos, with a maximum duration of two minutes, directly through the app.

The app streamlines the process by ensuring that distribution details are promptly conveyed to the District Election Officer. To expedite the resolution of complaints, there is a dedicated 24-hour staff available in the field. Upon receiving the complaints through the app, these teams work diligently to address the issues within a commendable time frame of 100 minutes. Once resolved, updates are sent back to the complainant’s assigned ID.

The C-Vigil app covers a range of violations that can be reported, including physical and mental intimidation of candidates by their followers, hate speeches during public meetings, distribution of money and alcohol to influence voters, and the distribution of incentives such as speakers, goods, and materials beyond the campaign period. Additionally, the app allows citizens to report instances of irresponsible enforcement of the Code of Election Conduct and violations of election campaign rules.

Each complaint made through the C-Vigil app contributes significantly to enhancing transparency and accountability in the electoral process. By harnessing the power of technology, the Election Commission aims to empower citizens in safeguarding the democratic values of the nation and fostering a fair and just electoral environment.
