Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee president and Nalgonda MP Uttam Kumar Reddy on Saturday said that Chief Minister K Chandrasekhara Rao has continuously cheated the Dalits of Telangana after becoming CM because of them.
“What happened to KCR’s promise of a Dalit CM? Why is the largest community in Telangana, the Madiga community, not represented in the Cabinet? The entire Telangana society is shocked at the brutal torture of a poor Dalit lady and her son in police custody” he said.
He was addressing the Dalitha Avedana Deeksha, which was organized to protest atrocities on the SCs in the state by TPCC SC Cell, headed by N Preetam.
Uttam said that though the Madiga community form 12 percent of the population of the state, no Madiga was made a minister. Though 50 lakhs to 60 lakh people belonging to the Madiga community, the Chief Minister was unable to find at least one MLA from that community, who could be appointed as minister.

He said that a community that forms just ½ percent of the state’s population has more than two ministers in the cabinet.
Reddy said that when Congress leaders met the Chief Minister to submit a memorandum about the death of Mariyamma, the Chief Minister told them that he was not aware of the incident. This was a blatant lie as the High court had already ordered a judicial probe in the matter, he said.
He said that the death of Mariyamma, a native of Chintakani Mandal of Khammam district, in the Adla Gudur police station on June 17 was a heart-rending one. He said that the Dalits in the state were meted out with injustice in Telangana state. He said that Mariyamma died due to the torture of the police in front of her son and daughter.
He said that the police have indulged in such heinous crimes with the support of the government. “How dare are the police to kill a Dalit woman in the police station? They have done it as they feel that the government would support them,” Uttam Kumar Reddy said. Reddy said that it was a shame on the government and the entire cabinet has to apologize to the people. He said that the civic society would hang its head in shy with the death of Mariyamma.
Questioning the meeting with the Dalith representatives of various political parties on Sunday on Empowerment of Dalits, Uttam Kumar Reddy said that how the Chief Minister could organize such a meet while forgetting all the promises he has made to the people.
Uttam said that the Dalits were cheated in the state and wondered how the Chief Minister could call for a meeting on empowering them. He said that people were laughing at the statements of the Chief Minister on the empowerment of Dalits. He said that apart from Mariyamma, Dalith persons like Narasimhulu, Rajababu and Rangaiah have died due to the highhandedness of police and upper caste people.
