Telangana Rashtra Samithi (now Bharat Rashtra Samithi) president and Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao promised to replicate the Telangana model of development across the country, saying he would work with the same enthusiasm and commitment for the nation’s development as the party had worked for achieving and developing the separate State of Telangana. The national party’s main agenda will be to uplift farmers, Dalits, and tribal communities, he said.
At the TRS general body meeting on Wednesday at Telangana Bhavan, Chandrashekhar Rao declared that Maharashtra and Karnataka would be the first battlegrounds for the TRS’s expansion into a national party.
While the first farmers union affiliated with BRS would be formed in Maharashtra, the party would contest the Karnataka Assembly elections next year. He stated that the BRS would contest the Assembly elections in alliance with the JD(S) and raise the party flag in Karnataka.
The Chief Minister stated that several other political parties, including the JD(S), Samajwadi Party, and the Rashtriya Janata Dal, had already expressed their full support for TRS’s efforts to secure a non-BJP government at the Centre. Over the next few months, the Bharat Rashtra Samithi will focus on the 2024 Lok Sabha elections and expand its activities in all states.
HD Kumaraswamy, former Karnataka Chief Minister and JD(S) leader, attended the TRS general body meeting.
“Though Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav and Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Tejaswi Yadav were eager to join us, they were unable to attend the meeting as they were preoccupied with other issues. They will be invited to the national party’s formal launch later this year,” he said, adding that several other political parties were eager to collaborate with the BRS on national activities.
The Chief Minister recalled TRS’s journey that began 21 years ago to achieve Telangana State and said the party was now at a critical juncture as it transforms into a national party.
“In terms of development and welfare, we took Telangana to new heights, setting new standards for others. We have demonstrated to the world that with dedication and zeal, one can accomplish great things and serve the people,” he said.
The party supremo also criticized the political parties that ruled the country for the past 75 years for indulging only in politics and failing to develop the country.
Chandrashekhar Rao also said that the States were also suffering as a result of the Centre’s lack of vision, and their development was suffering. He was convinced that the country was making little progress because of gender and caste discrimination. He added that the poor among the forward castes were also suffering as a result of failed policies.
Chandrashekhar Rao emphasized the importance of making fundamental changes on specific issues in order to see a visible improvement in the socioeconomic conditions of the poor and weaker sections.
