CM KCR Puts Officials on Alert in Wake of Heavy Rains

Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao has instructed the officials concerned and public representatives to take preventive measures on a war footing as the intensity of flood is increasing in Godavari catchment areas due to heavy rains in the upper reach of the SRSP.

The CM has instructed Minister Vemula Prashanth Reddy to monitor the preventive measures in the Balkonda Assembly segment and in the Nizamabad district where heavy rains are occurring.

Rao instructed Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar to depute NDRF teams to Nirmal town, which is submerged in water.

A release from CMO today said, the CM instructed district collectors, SPs, Revenue officials, and R&B officers to take preventive measures in the Godavari catchment areas so that people are not faced with any problems.

The CM urged people living in these areas not to venture out of their homes. He also urged them to be cautious as lakes and rivulets are overflowing and breaching due to heavy rains.

The CM said that along with the Godavari, in Krishna catchment areas in the upper riparian States are also experiencing heavy rainfall which led lifting of project gates in these states. In this backdrop, there is heavy flood flow reaching the state.

Hence the CM instructed that Ministers, MLAs should remain in their districts, Constituencies in the Godavari, Krishna catchment areas and monitor the flood situation from time to time.

He also instructed TRS leaders, cadres to be available to Telangana Bhavan and monitor the situation. Along with the officials in the catchments areas, TRS leadership, from Gram Sarpanch to the ministers should ensure that people are not put to any hardships.

Since there is a heavy to very heavy rain forecast for the next two days, the CM reiterated that people in these areas should not venture out and exercise caution. He also urged them to take care of their own safety. He also instructed the public representatives to be on high alert and take the necessary measures.
