Communal tension flair-up in Jharkhand following the killing of a Hindutva leader

Amid the face-off between the Hemant Soren-led Jharkhand government and the BJP-led centre regime, communal tension flared up in Singhbhum district in Jharkhand on Saturday when a Hindutva leader was allegedly murdered by a few assailants. Apart from imposing section 144, the police forces too were deployed in the area to avoid any untoward incident in the region.

It is not out of place to mention here that the Chief Minister Jharkhand Hemant Soren’s led Jharkhand government and the Centre came toe-to-toe recently when the Enforcement Directorate summoned Hemant in illegal mining case.

Blaming the center of witch hunting the opposition government by using central investigating agencies, Chief Minister Jharkhand Hemant Soren declared a war with the center recently while his party the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) observed an economic blockade on November 5 in the state after the Enforcement Directorate summons him earlier this month for questioning in the case.

Meanwhile, enraged supporters of the slain Hindutva leader protested outside the hospital with the body and allegedly resorted to stone pelting that prompted the police to impose section 144 in the region.

It is learned that the founder and an active leader of Giriraj Sena at Chakradharpur in the district, the 30 years old Kamal Devgiri was attacked by some unidentified assailants near Saraswati Shishu Vidya Mandir who fled the scene after committing the crime.

The Hindutva leader – who was returning from Railway Station along with his friend Shanker Singh on the bike, was said to have been took a break near the school for some time when the lurking assailants knock him down by showering petrol bombs on the saffron leader who later succumbed to injuries.

According to reports, Devgiri was planned to join the BJP fold soon but was eliminated by the unidentified assailants.  Anticipating the communal flare-up in the area, heavy police forces were deployed and section 144 was imposed in the Chakradharpur area to control the situation.

It is said that the slain leader Kamal Devgiri rose to fame over the night among the local youths of Chakradharpur after he founded the saffron fold called Giriraj Sena and according to his followers, he was planning to join the BJP soon.

However, the emerging saffron leader was hacked to death near Sarasvathi Shishu Vidya Mandir in Chakradharpur by three unidentified motorists on Saturday night who showered petrol bombs on saffron leader before fleeing the scene.

Local people rushed the bleeding Kamal Devgiri to the local Railway Hospital where the leader was declared brought dead. Meanwhile, scores of supporters of the slain leader gathered outside the hospital and started protesting against the killing along with the body of Kamal Devgiri.

It is said that some unsocial elements even started pelting stones on the shops and stores of the other community that resulted in communal tension between two religious groups in the area. Police swung into action soon and imposed section 144  and deployed heavy police force in the area to prevent further escalation.
