Congress and BJP Clash Over Venue for Upcoming Rallies in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: In Hyderabad, a political squabble has erupted after the Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) both requested permission to hold rallies at the Parade Ground on September 17.

This date is notable because the Congress planned to hold a public assembly to commemorate ‘Telangana National Integration Day,’ with Sonia Gandhi in attendance, as part of the Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting in the city. However, the BJP has also requested permission to hold an event honoring ‘Hyderabad Liberation Day’ at the same venue on the same day.

According to the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC), they were the first to request permission to hold a public assembly at the Parade Ground for the CWC meeting. Congress MLC Jeevan Reddy revealed that the request was received three days ago and that they had visited the sites to prepare the event.

Meanwhile, TPCC President A Revanth Reddy accused the BJP and the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) of attempting to impede the Congress’ public meeting by refusing to allow them to use the Parade Ground. He accused both the federal and state governments of conspiring against Congress. The TPCC stated that they had also chosen LB Stadium as an alternate location for their public meeting.

Revanth Reddy stressed that the Congress had resolved to hold the public meeting regardless of government approval and would not postpone it under any circumstances. The TPCC expects over 10 lakh participants, with Sonia Gandhi scheduled to announce five TPCC guarantees during the ceremony.

The conflict over the location of these two rallies underscores the ongoing political tensions in Hyderabad, as well as the importance of public venues for political activities in India’s electoral landscape.
