Congress leaders discuss about SC ruling on SC, ST quota

Hyderabad: The State Congress leaders today held a crucial meeting at Gandhi Bhavan on Wednesday on the judgment of the Supreme Court declaring the SC and ST reservations were not the fundamental right of the people of the respective communities.

AICC State incharge RC Kuntia, CLP leader Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, former deputy CM of erstwhile AP State Damodar Rajanarsimha, former MP V Hanumanth Rao, former minister Shabbir Ali, AICC state secretary SA Sampath Kumar and other leaders took part in the meeting.

Speaking on the occasion, RC Kuntia called upon the party leaders of the State to organize agitations on the issue in order to protect the reservations as per the directions of the party high command. Alleging that the ruling BJP was trying to remove the SC and ST reservations as part of its conspiracy, Kuntia made it clear that the provision of reservations would become a contentious issue in the wake of the Supreme Court verdict. He said the SC and ST communities would suffer a lot if they didn’t fight on the issue.

CLP leader Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka said the SC and ST communities got reservations due to the efforts made by the Congress. He alleged that the BJP was trying to deprive the two communities from enjoying the benefits of the reservations. He said there was an urgent need to agitate on the issue in a big way to avoid any kind of loss. He made it clear that the Congress had brought several legislations to benefit the Dalits, BCs and Minorities of the country.  Vikramarka also raised the issue of the installation of BR Ambedkar statue at Punjagutta circle by senior party leader V Hanumanth Rao  and demanded that the State government install the statue immediately. He warned the State government that the Congress would install the statue if it didn’t respond on the issue.
