Conjunctivitis Outbreak in Hyderabad, Telangana

In response to an increase in conjunctivitis cases in Hyderabad, Telangana’s health minister, Harish Rao, has taken the required steps to address the situation. To accommodate the growing number of patients seeking treatment for eye infections, he has asked the superintendent of Sarojini Devi Eye Hospital to increase the hours of outpatient services.

Harish Rao praised the critical contribution of ASHA and ANM workers in identifying affected persons and ensuring they receive early treatment during a review meeting. He promised that all necessary medicines, eye drops, and ointments are readily available in government hospitals such as Primary Health Centres and Palle Dawakhanas.

The health minister also stated that residential schools, where a big number of kids have been affected by conjunctivitis, will receive special attention. Furthermore, both public and private hospital superintendents have been required to organize hospital-wide infection control committees to discuss and ensure infection control measures.

Harish Rao stressed that family planning services in government hospitals will continue as usual, with an emphasis on optimizing the use of government-supplied air filters to improve patient care and safety.

Furthermore, the health minister emphasized the necessity of constantly monitoring Tuesday women’s health clinics (Mahila clinics). He promised to make efforts to enhance knowledge about these services among women in order to enable simple access to medical care. These methods are intended to effectively manage and control the recent increase in conjunctivitis cases in Hyderabad.
