A delegation of construction material suppliers from Hyderabad met All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) president and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi on Thursday, alleging harassment by the Telangana police and frequent raids on their premises.
The suppliers complained that police teams were conducting raids under the pretext of illegal sand dumping and sales, despite them possessing valid waybills. They alleged that small vehicles transporting sand to construction sites were being stopped and seized, causing severe disruption to their businesses.
A supplier from Bahadurpura explained that their operations are based on customer demand, with many requiring only small auto-rickshaw or tipper loads instead of large truckloads. “We purchase sand from authorized suppliers after verifying documents. There are no illegal dealings,” he said.

The traders further argued that large trucks cannot navigate the narrow lanes of Hyderabad’s older areas, making small vehicle deliveries essential. “If sand is dumped on the main road, shifting it to construction sites in inner colonies incurs high costs, and traffic police along with GHMC impose fines for obstruction,” another trader pointed out.
In response, Asaduddin Owaisi took up the matter with Chief Secretary Santhi Kumari and reminded her that two AIMIM MLAs had earlier represented the concerns of construction material suppliers. He urged her to instruct the police commissioners of Hyderabad, Rachakonda, and Cyberabad to address the issue.
Owaisi also spoke to Telangana DGP and other senior officials, forwarding waybills and related documents to highlight cases where vehicles were being seized despite proper documentation. The issue remains under discussion, with suppliers hoping for immediate relief from police actions affecting their livelihoods.
