will you demolish govt office too: Aasaduddin Owaisi

AIMIM chief and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi has raised serious concerns about government buildings constructed on Full Tank Level (FTL) areas, questioning whether the authorities would consider demolishing these structures. During a public address , Owaisi pointed to several prominent locations, including the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) office, Necklace Road, and the Golf Court in Golconda, urging officials from the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) to inspect these sites.

Owaisi specifically questioned whether the Congress-led state government would take action against government offices built near Hussain Sagar Lake, a significant water body in the city. He recalled the historical context of the GHMC office, stating that it was constructed on what was once a water body. “We used to take a double-decker bus to Hyderabad Public School, and I remember seeing a water body where the GHMC office now stands,” Owaisi said. He also pointed out that Necklace Road, a popular recreational spot, is built on an FTL area and suggested its removal to restore the original state of the land.

“Will you do that? It is on the FTL; you should do it. Who is stopping you?” Owaisi challenged the authorities, questioning their commitment to upholding regulations related to FTL areas. He further added that the Government of India building, the Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB), is also located on land associated with Himayat Sagar and should be scrutinized.

Highlighting the historical significance of FTL designations, Owaisi referred to the times of the Nizams, the former rulers of Hyderabad, who used FTL markings to demarcate the borders of lakes and other water bodies. He urged the current government to address these concerns and bring the matter to the attention of the city’s Mayor for appropriate action.

Owaisi’s comments have sparked a discussion about the integrity of urban planning and the potential environmental impact of constructions on FTL areas. The call for government accountability and action on this issue has resonated with environmentalists and citizens concerned about the preservation of Hyderabad’s natural water bodies.

The government’s response to these questions remains to be seen, as citizens await further developments in this ongoing debate over urban infrastructure and environmental sustainability in Hyderabad.
