Controversy Over Cash Incentives for Political Rally Attendance

Hyderabad: The Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) leader Revanth Reddy uploaded a video clip in which people were allegedly offered cash incentives to attend the padayatra of Nagarkurnool MLA Marri Janardhan Reddy, a member of the Bharat Rashtra Samiti (BRS), before of the Telangana assembly elections.

Revanth Reddy moved to Twitter to express his concerns over the video, claiming that it foreshadowed the BRS party’s upcoming demise.

A drumbeater can be heard making an announcement in the video in a village in Nagarkurnool. He requests that the villagers assemble at the village temple at 3 p.m., as the local MLA is slated to arrive as part of his ‘Padella Prasthanam’ padayatra.

The drumbeater informs that women carrying ‘Bonams’ (food offerings to the goddess) will be rewarded Rs 300, while those making and carrying the Bathukamma (a floral festival celebrated in Telangana) will be given Rs 200.Furthermore, he encourages young people to attend the event by promising them a ‘drink’ if they do.

This method was opposed by Revanth Reddy, who emphasized that hoisting a Bonam is a matter of self-respect and cultural significance. He stated that putting a monetary value on such a cultural heritage exposes BRS leaders’ arrogance and weakens Telangana’s culture.
