Corona Protocols Must to Avoid Omicron: DH Srinivas Rao

State Health Director Dr. Srinivas Rao today called upon people to be cautious on the possible spread of Omicron, a new variant of Coronavirus.

The Health officials instructed the people to wear masks compulsorily to avoid any sort of virus effect. The government will impose a fine of Rs 1000 against those who failed to wear masks, Sriniavas Rao warned.

Speaking to presspersons at his Koti Office here, the health director stated that they are screening the passengers coming from abroad at the airport. We have to wear masks, sanitize hands, and maintain social distance, the director urged.Coronavirus

Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao had discussed at length with the health officials on the Omicron variant and steps to tackle it with more efforts and facilities, he said. The new variant may show its effect in January or February next if corona protocols are not followed as being said in social media, the health director said.

Srinivas Rao alerted the people to be more cautious and follow corona protocols. With only such precautions the people can tide over the problem and keep away from the virus effect, he warned. The state government has made all efforts to tackle Omicron possible attack in the state and screening the people coming from foreign countries like South Africa or others he clarified.

If we fail to follow corona protocols the news spread in social media may become true as people may get affected by the new variant, he cautioned.

After screening at the airport and testing them the officials concerned send them to TIMS in Gachibowli for further clarity. One among a few persons who came from abroad was tested positive. These details were sent to genome testing and yet to be found whether it was omicron or delta variant he said. The health director said that Omicron is found to be spreading six times faster than the delta variant and the people have to be extra cautious. It was informed that the Omicron variant spread to 24 nations from three countries in just three days.

He said that they would start imposing fines on those who don’t wear face masks  in public places,  health department has also requested the police authorities to start re-imposing the fine of Rs. 1000. He also said that the officials would verify the vaccine certificates of those who claim to have taken the vaccines.
