Death toll in Secunderabad fire rises to 8

On Tuesday, eight people died in a fire that erupted in the Monda Market area of Secunderabad.

On Monday night, several people were injured in a fire that broke out in an e-bike showroom on the ground floor and spread to an upper floor lodge. For treatment, the injured were transferred to Gandhi and Yashoda hospitals nearby.

The death toll has risen to eight from seven last night, according to Chandana Deepti, DCP, North Zone, Hyderabad. An immediate response was made by fire tenders

The fire broke out at the charging unit of the e-bike showroom, Hyderabad Police confirmed. Smoke engulfed the upper floors, trapping people. Several cops arrived on the scene

The fire was put out by several fire tenders who rushed to the scene. People were evacuated by the police once they reached the scene.

Patients treated at Yashoda Hospital include:

  1. 33-year-old Umesh Kumar Acharya s/o Jogeshwer (Room No 406)
  2. Santhosh, aged 26 years, s/o Simhachalam and Yogitha d/o of Ramanamurthy. They are both residents of Vishakapatnam (Room 205)
  3. Keshavalu s/o Kistappa, 27 years old, from Chennai (Room 405)
  4. Deepak Yadav (Room 405), s/o Basanth Yadav, from Bihar.

Unfortunately, a woman died during treatment.

Telangana Home Minister Mohd Mahmood Ali said a probe had been launched.

It was an unfortunate incident. Firefighter teams did their best to rescue people from the lodge, but some died as a result of the heavy smoke. Some individuals were rescued from the lodge. Investigation into how the incident occurred is in progress, the Minister stated.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his grief for the incident and announced that the PMNRF would pay Rs 2 lakh to the next of kin of each deceased person and Rs 50,000 to the injured.

Minister T Srinivas Yadav, Mahmood Ali, and CV Anand, the Commissioner of the Hyderabad City Police, had arrived to assess the situation.
