Director of Public Health Refutes Reports on Hiding Omicron Cases

The Director of Public Health (DPH) of the state Dr. Srinivasa Rao today refuted reports that they were hiding the corona virus-positive cases of Omicron variant around January 15, 2022.

He made it clear that the state government was effectively facing the covid pandemic.

Speaking to media persons, he said that the cases of the omicron variant were going up in South Africa and added that the percentage of the cases had gone up from 8 percent to 16 percent.

He said that they would be able to know about the severity of the virus only after a couple of days. He said that although the cases of the new variant had gone up in South Africa, the number of deaths and admissions in hospitals had not gone up. Revealing the details of those who landed in the state from various foreign countries, he said that out of a total of 900 passengers, 13 had been tested covid positive while noting that it would take one or two days for them to confirm if those who had tested positive were infected with the new variant or not.

He reiterated that the participation of the people was very important in the prevention of the spread of the virus while noting that the cases would go up in the country during the next two to three days.

He said that the state government was fully prepared to face the third wave of the virus and added that those who were infected with the omicron virus did not exhibit any serious symptoms.

Commenting on the ongoing vaccination drive, Rao said that they had administered 3.7 lakh vaccines on Saturday alone and added that they were going ahead with the target of achieving the  100 percent vaccination status by the end of this month.
