ED Court rejects Jagan’s plea for exemption from attending court

Hyderabad: A Special Court of Enforcement Directorate (ED) here on Friday dismissed an interlocutory application (IA) filed by AP Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy urging the court to exempt him from his personal appearance before it during the hearing of the case. The ED had filed five cases against the AP CM on the charge of possessing Disproportionate Assets.

During arguments over his application, Jagan urged the court to allow the representatives of Jagati Publications to represent him in the case. However, the ED had strongly opposed the plea of Jagan and told the court that the appearance of the accused of serious frauds and crimes was compulsory and added that Jagan should also attend to the hearing of the cases filed against him on regular basis.

The ED also told the court that Jagan was also the principal accused in the cases filed by it. The ED said they had filed five cases against the AP CM on allegations that he had disproportionate assets. The Special Court adjourned the case to January 31. The other accused in the case are YSRCP Rajya Sabha MP Vijaya Sai Reddy, Shyam Prasad Reddy of Indu group, Pratap Reddy of Penna group and former IAS officer Y. Sri Laxmi appeared before the court.
