Elderly man faked to be a police officer in Egypt for 40 years

An elderly Egyptian has been arrested after he allegedly faked to be a police officer for 40 years. The man was unemployed and committed scores of swindling and fraud crimes. According to the Egyptian police, the accused threatened others with his sources and connections.

Investigations also uncovered that the fake officer deceived even his family and proposed to marry his wife pretending to be a police officer. The accused has three siblings who graduated from university and also claimed to have prepared his doctoral thesis in a university and became a university professor.

The accused was arrested by the Egyptian police after forged contracts with people who confirmed they had procured them from him were seized. It was also found that the accused made a great fortune from his swindling operations. Mastering his fake role so well, the accused regularly promoted himself from the captain rank to the rank of major general. He further even celebrated his retirement with his family.

The police raided his house and seized police uniforms and pictures of him wearing the official “Meri” uniform. Phones forged seals attributed to government agencies and printing tools which he used to cheat his victims were also found. The accused used a fake pistol like the official one used by Egyptian police officers along with a fake radio device, which revealed the investigations of the Public Funds Prosecution.

The imposter did not accept the charges that he had used these tools officially, claiming that he had only kept them for prestige before his family. According to judicial sources, the charge of impersonating police officers is proven based on the false identity documents seized from his possession and in his home, as well as the charges of fraud using the status of an officer.

The prosecution has ordered that the forged documents will be examined by the Forensic Authority’s forgery detection unit as a legal procedure to clarify the locations of forgery in them. The accused was detained by the prosecution pending trial and had appealed against the decision of his detention. However, the opposition judge rejected his appeal and upheld his custody for 15 days, until the conclusion of the prosecution’s investigations.
