The election of the Chairman of the Telangana Legislative Council will take place on Monday at 11 a.m. On Saturday, Assembly Secretary V Narasimha Charyulu issued a notification to this effect. Nominations for the same should be sent to the Secretary between 10.30 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Sunday.
V Bhoopal Reddy was appointed Protem Chairman after the term of the previous Chairman, Gutha Sukhender Reddy, expired in June of last year. After Bhoopal Reddy’s term expired in January of this year, AIMIM MLC Syed Aminul Hasan Jafri took over as the new Protem Chairman.
Any time soon, Chief Minister and TRS President K Chandrashekhar Rao is expected to announce the name of the TRS candidate for the Chairman post. The ruling TRS has an overwhelming majority in the 40-member council, with 34 members elected and six nominated.
TRS says BJP’s magic not in Telangana
In other news, following the BJP’s success in four of the five states where elections were held, the TRS expects the saffron party to strengthen its position in Telangana as well.
However, TRS officials are unconcerned with the BJP’s winning march in other states.
“In these states, the BJP retained power. It’s not really noteworthy. In reality, the BJP lost some seats in Uttar Pradesh,” a TRS leader said, claiming that the saffron party will not pose a significant challenge to the pink party in Telangana.

However, TRS leaders made no public announcement on the results of the elections in five states. “How is Telangana concerned about the election outcomes in five states?” asked a TRS leader. He stated that for the time being, he would only congratulate those who had won the elections.
“There is nothing specific to comment on the outcome of Assembly elections in other States,” another TRS senior added.
