Engineering centre established by Deliveroo in Hyderabad

Deliveroo, a worldwide food delivery firm based in the United Kingdom that operates in Europe, the Middle East, Asia, and Australia, has opened its India Engineering Centre in Hyderabad, making it the company’s largest technical hub outside the United Kingdom.

By the end of 2022, the company expects to hire over 150 engineers in India in the domains of analytics, platforms, automation, and machine learning. The Hyderabad Engineering Centre will be an integral part of Deliveroo’s central technology organisation.

The company intends to strengthen its engineering capabilities by forming a new team dedicated to providing superior experiences for Deliveroo customers, restaurant and grocery partners, and delivery riders, as well as developing scalable, reliable, and innovative next-generation products for its global operations.

Engineering expertise

Deliveroo is a three-sided marketplace that connects consumers, restaurants and grocers, and delivery riders to deliver food and groceries in as little as 20 minutes. The opening of the India Engineering Centre in Hyderabad allows engineers to solve cutting-edge business problems as Deliveroo expands and improves its product.

The Hyderabad Centre’s engineering teams will focus on accelerating software engineering and development in the areas of mobile apps, cloud computing, artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML), robotic process automation (RPA), and data analytics.

The Centre will assist us in continuing to unlock new technologies for each side of our marketplace, resulting in the development of a world-class service for consumers, restaurants and grocers, and riders.”

Creating a Team

Sashi Somavarapu, VP of Engineering at Deliveroo, will lead the India Engineering Centre. He has previously headed teams at Amazon, Jio Platforms, and Ford Motor. He will report to Devesh Mishra, Deliveroo’s chief product and technology officer, who joined the company in 2021.

“Some of the world’s leading IT talent is based in India, which is why we are so happy to start recruiting in Hyderabad,” said Devesh Mishra. We know that there are engineers in India who are capable of tackling some of the most difficult challenges in technology, of innovating in a fast-paced setting, and of combining experience and skill with an entrepreneurial approach.”
