Uber’s Hyderabad team currently at work on a new delivery service

A new feature has been developed by the Uber Eats Engineering team in Hyderabad, which is involved in the end-to-end creation of unique consumer and merchant-facing products for the worldwide market. This project was led by an eight-person team from the Hyderabad Tech Centre, which included engineers, product managers, and product operations.

The engineering team continues to contribute to the global expansion of the delivery company, including the expansion of a business line that allows merchants to join Uber Eats while employing their delivery employees. The capability allows restaurant partners who choose to use their delivery workers to continue doing so while receiving orders from the Uber Eats platform.

On busy days, they may also choose to use Uber Eats courier partners to accommodate high demand or to deliver to a larger geographic radius inside a city. Similarly, clients can access a more extensive range of options directly from their food ordering app.

“The business line offers access to the Uber Eats network for various restaurants internationally by enabling additional flexibility,” said Jaiteerth Patwari, engineering director at Uber and India Site Lead for Uber Delivery, of the breakthrough. It is consistent with our goal of providing restaurants with a diverse range of options from which to pick based on their business fit.”

Patwari noted that Uber Engineering is continually looking for solutions that might have a global impact at scale.

Uber Eats is already a profitable e2e business serving restaurants in 23 countries. The United Kingdom, the United States, Spain, Australia, Japan, the Netherlands, France, Poland, Portugal, Mexico, Canada, Belgium, Germany, Switzerland, New Zealand, Italy, Ireland, Chile, Sweden, South Africa, Kenya, Reunion, and Ecuador are among them.

Microsoft plans to establish a data centre region in Hyderabad.

On Monday, Microsoft announced the opening of its newest data centre area in Hyderabad, with the purpose of supporting Indian clients in succeeding in a cloud- and AI-enabled digital economy.

It will provide enhanced data protection across the entire Microsoft portfolio — cloud, data solutions, artificial intelligence (AI), productivity tools, and customer relationship management (CRM) — to corporations, start-ups, developers, education, and government organisations.

A Microsoft data centre area provides a competitive advantage to our digital economy and is a long-term investment in our country’s potential, said Rajeev Chandrasekhar, Minister of State for Skill Development and IT.

In December 2021, Microsoft created Azure Availability Zones in its Central India data centre site to meet customer demand for high availability and resiliency.

Telangana is establishing itself as a “challenger” in the Indian IT sector, with software exports increasing by 7% year on year to Rs 5 trillion ($67.4 billion) in FY21.

Microsoft and Telangana have a long history, with Hyderabad being one of the largest Microsoft headquarters in the world, and I am glad to see the cooperation grow, said Industries Minister and TRS working president K.T. Rama Rao.

Microsoft’s customers in India include Jio, ICICI, Inmobi, Infosys, TCS, Bajaj Finserv, Apollo Hospitals, Mahindra, Dr Reddy’s Labs, Piramal, State Bank of India, Flipkart, Pidilite, and Amity.

The new data centre will broaden Microsoft’s cloud capabilities and ability to help workers across the country. It would also offer new entrepreneurial opportunities while meeting critical security and regulatory standards, according to Microsoft India President Anant Maheshwari.

Microsoft intends to have a 100% renewable energy supply equivalent to the electricity used by its data centres by 2025.
