IT and Industries Minister KT Rama Rao warned on Thursday that the return of the Congress to power would mean a reversal of Telangana’s entire development, saying that the Congress had been in power for 55 years here but had failed to provide proper power supply and even drinking water to the people.
Addressing a public meeting in Jadcherla here, he said everything in the state would be back to square one, with even schemes like Rythu Bandhi and Dalit Bandhu facing the axe. Despite their previous failures, Congress leaders were still attempting to deceive the public with false assurances, he said.
“We will be going back to the days of Rs.200 pensions and three hours power supply a day. It will also be curtains for Rythu Bandhu and Dalit Bandhu schemes,” he said.
He slammed Congress leaders for organizing padayatras in the state, saying that one Congress leader boasted of walking 750 km. But, logically, he asked, if the Congress had ensured adequate water, power, and jobs during its tenure, would these padayatras have been necessary.
On the other hand, the Congress was now in charge of four other states. Was free power to farmers or schemes like Rythu Bandhu and Rythu Bima being implemented in those states, he asked, noting that the Congress had neglected the farming sector and common man’s issues over the last five decades.
He stated that the State government was prioritizing the Palamuru Rangareddy Lift Irrigation scheme, while the Uddandapur and Karivena reservoirs would be completed by August-September, despite Congress leaders filing court cases and causing delays in project execution. Irrigation water would be provided to 1.40 lakh acres in Jadcherla constituency once the Uddandapur and Karivena reservoirs were filled.
The Minister slammed TPCC president A Revanth Reddy for claiming there was no development in Jadcherla constituency, saying the Congress leader had turned a blind eye to the rapid development in all sectors.
In the constituency alone, 32,477 people received monthly pensions of Rs.2000 and Rs.3,000. During the Congress tenure, only Rs.200 was paid as a pension to 29 lakh people with an annual expenditure of Rs.800 crore, he said, whereas the BRS government extended a pension of Rs.2,000 to 46 lakh people with an annual expenditure of Rs.12,000 crore.
Similarly, under Rythu Bima, 1433 families in the constituency received Rs.5 lakh each. Rythu Bandhu deposited Rs.900 crore into farmers’ accounts in Jadcherla alone, he stated.
“I challenge the Congress leaders for an open debate on the success in any sector in the State,” Rama Rao said, adding that Jadcherla Municipality, which was previously a Grade II municipality, would be upgraded to Grade I and given Rs.30 crore for development projects.
