A video capturing water seepage from the Taj Mahal’s main dome during recent heavy rains has sparked significant public concern. The city of Agra has been experiencing relentless rainfall over the past three days, resulting in widespread waterlogging, including around the renowned monument.
The video, which has quickly gone viral on social media, shows water accumulating around the Taj Mahal. Despite the troubling visuals, the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) has stated that, although seepage has been observed, there is no significant damage to the monument’s arched roof.
AIMIM President Asaduddin Owaisi has strongly criticized the ASI’s handling of the situation. He took to his official X (formerly Twitter) account, expressing his discontent with the ASI’s management of the Taj Mahal. Owaisi likened the ASI’s approach to failing a 10th-grade exam and then attempting to pursue a PhD, highlighting what he perceives as a glaring disconnect between the ASI’s responsibilities and its performance. He posted the video of the Taj Mahal, emphasizing his point that despite generating revenue from the monument, the ASI has failed in its duty to maintain it properly.

In response to the seepage issue, Rajkumar Patel, the Superintending Chief of ASI’s Agra circle, confirmed that a drone camera was used to inspect the main dome. Patel acknowledged the presence of seepage but reassured that there is no significant damage to the structure.
The controversy underscores ongoing challenges in preserving the Taj Mahal, a symbol of India’s rich heritage, amid the pressures of environmental and operational challenges.
