Farmer Dies By Suicide On Protest Site in Haryana Ahead of Nationwide Protests

Amidst the farmers protests against the three farm bills released by the government last year, a 55-year-old farmer allegedly committed suicide. The incident took place in a protest site in Haryana.

Farmer Commits Suicide After Consuming Poison 

As per the latest reports, the victim who has been identified as Zile Singh was actively involved in serving food to the farmers. He has been serving food to the farmers at the protest side on the Khatkar toll plaza for the past couple of months.

However, the district BKU leader Azad Singh said that Zile Singh was alone on the protesting site when the incident took place. Many of the farmers also informed the police that Singh has been going through depression regarding the fate of the agitation.

In the morning when the farmers came to the protesting site, they saw Zile Singh lying on his bed, unconscious. A bottle of poison was recovered from there, he added.

Zile Singh is survived by his wife and three children.

Farmers Protest To Get Intense on June 26

The protest by the farmers against the new farm laws introduced by the Central government has been nearing 200 days and in order to intensify their agitation, the farmers have announced a sit-in at Raj Bhavans across the country on June 26.

A Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM) leader said on Friday: “There will be a protest of farmers on June 26 and black flags will be shown. A memorandum will also be sent to President Ram Nath Kovind.”

Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) leader Dharmendra Malik told the media that June 26 will be celebrated as “Save Agriculture, Save Democracy Day”. At the same time, by showing black flags at Raj Bhavans and giving memorandum to the President through the Governor in every state, “we will stage our protest”.
