Farmers To Take Lakhimpur Kheri Violence Victims’ Ashes Across Country To Protest; Rail Roko Scheduled on October 18

In the latest update from the Lakhimpur Kheri violence, the farmers’ groups have decided to hold a “rail roko” on October 18 along with a Mahapanchayat in Lucknow on October 26. This comes as a response to the deaths of eight people including four farmers in UP.

Farmers’ Groups Demand Removal Of Union Home Minister

As per the latest reports, the farmer’s groups have demanded resignation from junior Home Minister Ajay Mishra and the arrest of his son Ashish who was called in for questioning by the police earlier today after a couple of days being named in the FIR. This comes after he skipped yesterday’s summons. He arrived with a police escort to answer the summons.

The summons comes after the Supreme Court expressed concerns over the UP government’s investigation into the matter. Chief Justice NV Ramana asked the state that if they would have treated the accused any differently if he wasn’t the son of a Union Minister.

Swaraj India Chief Yogendra Yadav said that farmers from all across the country will reach Lakhimpur Kheri on October 12 and the incident that happened was no less than the Jallianwala Bagh. He said that they had requested the civic organisations to take out candle marches in tier cities after 8pm on October 12.

He added that the farmers will go to every state with the ashes of the farmers who had died in Lakhimpur Kheri and immersions will be done. Meanwhile, Dussehra being on October 15 and all farmers will burn effigies of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah.

He said that rail roko will be conducted on October 18 and then on October 26, a huge mahapanchayat will be held in Lucknow.

8 People Died After SUV Rammed Into A Group Of Protesting Farmers

The incident took place on October 2. A Mahindra Thar owned by Ajay Mishra rammed into a group of protesting farmers who were conducting a peaceful protest against the three farm laws. The farmers have claimed that Ashish Mishra was in the SUV.
