Five Cases Filed in Connection with Violent Protest at Secunderabad Temple

The Hyderabad police have registered five cases following violent clashes that erupted during a protest at Muthyalamma temple in Secunderabad. The incident left around 15 policemen and several civilians injured when a mob turned violent after police intervened to stop them from heading toward a nearby mosque in Kummarwadi, just meters from the temple.

The protest, which took place without permission, saw nearly 3,000 people gather near the temple. Tensions flared when a section of the mob allegedly attempted to march towards the mosque, prompting the police to act swiftly. As officers tried to control the crowd, the situation escalated with protestors hurling slippers, stones, and sticks at the police personnel deployed in the area. In response, the police resorted to a lathi charge to disperse the aggressive crowd.

According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (North Zone), Rashmi Perumal, four cases were filed at the Monda Market police station and one at the Gopalapuram police station. The cases pertain to charges of stone pelting, attacking police personnel, damaging RTC buses, and attempting to vandalize the Metropolis Hotel. Authorities are working to identify the individuals responsible for inciting violence, including those who threw stones at the police to push through towards the mosque.

Initial investigations suggest that the protestors came from various parts of the city following a call for demonstration. However, some unsocial elements within the crowd took advantage of the situation and caused the unrest, police officials said.

Despite the violence on Saturday, the situation at Muthyalamma temple remained peaceful on Sunday. Religious rituals proceeded under tight security, with the Rapid Action Force and local police maintaining a vigilant presence to prevent any further escalation. Several individuals attempting to visit the temple were taken into preventive custody as a precautionary measure.

BJP legislator T Raja Singh, who had announced plans to visit the temple on Sunday, was placed under house arrest to avoid potential disturbances. Senior police officials are closely monitoring the situation to ensure calm is maintained in the area as tensions subside.
