Food Safety Violations Uncovered at Jubilee Hills Restaurants

In a recent inspection by the Task Force Team of Telangana’s Commissioner of Food Safety, multiple hygiene and safety violations were uncovered at two popular restaurants on Jubilee Hills Road 36. The inspections revealed alarming lapses in food handling, storage, and documentation, raising serious concerns about public health and safety.

The team inspected Poshnosh Lounge and Bar and found a series of violations, including the use of expired and misbranded Sichuan pepper imported from Bangkok without proper importer details. The establishment was also operating with an expired license, which lapsed on December 20, 2024.

Key documents, such as water analysis reports, pest control records, FOSTAC certificates, and employee medical records, were missing. The kitchen conditions were equally concerning, with refrigerators left uncleaned and not defrosted. The kitchen floor lacked proper drainage for food waste and had an open entry without insect-proof screens, increasing the risk of contamination.

Food and non-food items were stored together, and vegetarian and non-vegetarian items were not segregated. Food items were found placed directly on the ground, violating basic hygiene standards. Additionally, industrial-use citric acid (1kg) was discovered in storage, raising questions about its intended use.

Expired food items, including soy sauce, papad packets, rasam powder, onion powder, cajun mix, mushrooms, and packed methi, were discarded. Split cashews infested with insects were also found, further highlighting the poor state of food storage.

The Task Force Team also inspected Kishkinda Kitchen (Kake di Hatti), where similar violations were uncovered. Refrigerators were found dirty and filled with food waste, while essential documents like water analysis reports, FOSTAC certificates, and employee medical records were missing.

Kitchen drains were clogged, and food items were improperly stored. Spoiled vegetables, live cockroaches, and rat feces indicated a severe pest infestation. Expired items, including juice, mushrooms, sunflower oil, and packed mustard seeds, were discarded. Additionally, food handlers were found working without gloves, further compromising hygiene standards.

The Task Force Team stated that notices will be issued to both establishments, and further action will be taken in accordance with food safety regulations. The findings highlight the urgent need for stricter enforcement of food safety norms to protect public health.

Consumers are advised to remain vigilant and report any concerns about food safety to the authorities. The Commissioner of Food Safety has reiterated its commitment to ensuring that food establishments adhere to hygiene and safety standards to prevent health risks.

This inspection serves as a stark reminder for restaurants and food businesses to prioritize cleanliness, proper documentation, and compliance with food safety regulations to safeguard their customers’ well-being.
