Four Deaths Caused by Lightning Strikes in Two Incidents in Erstwhile Warangal

On Wednesday, three youngsters aged 25 to 30 were killed by a lightning strike while partying at a hillock on the outskirts of Sagaram village in the Zaffergadh mandal of Jangaon district.

The victims were from the nearby Bandauthapur village of Wardhannapet mandal in the Warangal district. Two other people were injured. The victims’ names were Samabaraju, Sai, and Shivakrishna. The injured were taken to the Wardhannapet Community Health Centre (CHC) for treatment.

All of the youngsters were employees having jobs in Hyderabad and other cities. They traveled to the village to spend Dasara with their families.

In another incident, a lightning strike at the Pedda Cheruvu killed Vemula Prashanth of Garla village in Mahabubabad district. The incident also injured two other people, Vijay and Shekar. They were taken to a hospital in Khammam.

Previously, two people were killed after being struck by lightning in different parts of Telangana as heavy rain lashed the state, including the capital city of Hyderabad, disrupting everyday life.

Lightning-related deaths were reported in the districts of Bhadradri Kothagudem and Khammam late Monday, September 26. L Sreenu, a farmer returning home from his fields, was killed by lightning near Mamidigundala village in the Bhadradri Kothagudem district.

Shobha, his wife, reportedly suffered minor injuries. Another incident occurred when a 66-year-old woman named Sheikh Jaan Bi was sitting in the courtyard of her house in Banigandlapadu village of Yerrupalem mandal in Khammam district when she was struck by lightning.

At the time, a massive downpour inundated roads and low-lying areas, disrupting everyday life for a few hours in Hyderabad. Drains in several parts of the city were overflowing flooding streets. Long traffic jams were observed on major roads.

People returning home from offices and workplaces were stranded due to gridlock at nearly all major traffic intersections. Drivers were stuck in traffic for several hours. Some areas also experienced power outages.
