“France is ready to support India”- President Emmanuel Macron on rise of covid cases

France has offered to lend a hand to India, which is witnessing terrifying situations as the covid cases cross the 3 lakh mark for the second consecutive day on Friday. The French President Emmanuel Macron tweeted that his country is ready to help India against the virus that is partial towards none.

The President’s message was posted on Twitter by French Ambassador Emmanuel Lenain today. It read, “I want to send a message of solidarity to the Indian people, facing a resurgence of COVID-19 cases. France is with you in this struggle, which spares no one. We stand ready to provide our support.”

With 3,32,730 new covid cases within the last 24 hours, India has become second to none in the list of countries with the highest number of coronavirus cases. It reported 2,263 deaths in this period, as per the Union Health Ministry’s data. In total, India has registered more than 1.62 crore cases with a fatality count of 1,86,920.

In his Tuesday’s address to the nation that everyone was awaiting, Prime Minister Modi termed the second wave of coronavirus a “toofan” or storm, which has taken the country for a horrible ride.

The increasing hazardous effects of the disease are debilitating India’s healthcare sector as many hospitals are running out of beds, oxygen supply and essential drugs needed to save patients. Videos and stories are surfacing each day of helpless relatives taking their patients from one hospital to another in search of a hospital bed and oxygen cylinder that can stop the virus from sucking the life out of them.

The grave situation has also brought travel restrictions from many countries of the world for travelers from India.

On Wednesday, France said that it will be placing a 10-day mandatory quarantine for people coming from India in the days to come to save others from contracting the mutant Indian strain of the virus.

The United Arab Emirates stepped up to ban all travelers from India from entering their territory for 10 days starting Sunday. Apart from this, people who transited through India in a connecting flight in the last 14 days are also not allowed to get on another flight from any other place in the world to the UAE.

Similarly, on Tuesday, Hong Kong announced the suspension of all flights connecting India due to the surge in covid cases in the country for the next 14 days. HK has placed a similar ban on Pakistan and the Philippines.

India was added to the “red list” by the United Kingdom because of the 103 cases found in the country of the virus strain first identified in India

On Monday, Russia announced that it is halting its Embassy’s visa department temporarily until further notice.

Advising everyone to avoid all travel to India, the United States has tagged India as a “Level 4 (Very High) country with major risks of contracting the virus. It urged travelers not to go to India even if they have received both doses of the vaccine.
