Fuel vehicles will be a thing of past soon. E-Vehicles will dominate the country: Nitin Gadkari

Reminding that the use of Petrol and Diesel causes pollution, the Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari announced that the use of petrol vehicles will be abolished in the next five years. Similarly, diesel vehicles will go off the road in the next three years. All these vehicles will be replaced with electric vehicles for which we have already made inroads. He was addressing a public gathering in Haryana on Saturday.

“I am determined to put to an end the use of petrol and diesel in this country. The next five years will see the abolishment of petrol vehicles while the diesel machine will go away in next three years. Going with the ever increasing demand, we have decided to transform the mode of transportation and planned to buy 50,000 electric buses as a better alternative to fuel consuming vehicles as this new mode of vehicles are more affordable and mileage oriented than the present one,” he explained.

Disclosing that a plan is in the pipeline to introduce an ‘Electric Highway’ from Haryana to Bombay promoting air-conditioned electric busses, the minister said, “Just say goodbye to petrol pumps. Not just electric busses but the electric trolleys, trucks and tractors would also be introduced to help the operators get rid of from fuel expenses. As I always prefer travelling in electric vehicles, I urged all the farmers to go electric in their agrarian activities as coming day will witness a transport revolution with all the vehicles like scooters, cars, trucks and tractors besides aeroplane and rail engine will run only through green hydrogen while fuel like coal, oil and petrol will go out of use soon.”

Claiming that use of ethanol is the new age fuel soon going to dominate the country, he said, people should avoid using petrol vehicles as the invention of ethanol emerged as a best replacement of petrol and prove cheaper and mileage oriented compared as the petrol comes over Rs.100 per litre while ethanol is available at a rate of Rs.62 per litre. This will help people save half of their fuel expenditure besides supporting the government in overcoming the growing threat of pollution in the country.
