G Kishan Reddy Ends 24-Hour Fast in Telangana

G Kishan Reddy, Union Minister and President of the BJP’s Telangana unit, ended his 24-hour fast on Thursday, protesting the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) government’s alleged neglect of the state’s unemployed young.

Former Union Minister Prakash Javadekar, who is in charge of the BJP’s election campaign in Telangana, offered Kishan Reddy lime juice to celebrate the conclusion of his fast.

On Wednesday, Reddy began his hunger strike at Dharna Chowk in Hyderabad. However, on Wednesday evening, police allegedly “forcibly” removed him from Dharna Chowk, alleging that the demonstration had gone on for too long.

This action sparked a tense scene at Dharna Chowk, with BJP activists chanting chants and protesting police intervention. Despite this, Kishan Reddy maintained his fast at the party’s headquarters.

While the police maintained that the protest was permitted from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and accused the protestors of failing to adhere to the timings, the BJP claimed that the police response was unreasonable.

Kishan Reddy was then transferred to the Telangana BJP office at his request. The authorities speculated that his apparent loss of consciousness was caused by dehydration.

Telangana BJP General Secretary G Premender Reddy called for rallies on Thursday in response to the police intervention. He also stated that he has taken the problem to the attention of Union Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP President J P Nadda.

Amit Shah allegedly called Kishan Reddy and encouraged him to continue fighting the BRS administration on issues affecting the people. This fast and protest reflect the current political tensions in Telangana as the state prepares for elections.
