Ganesh laddu in Hyderabad auctioned for Rs.1.26 cr

A colossal 5-kg Ganesh laddu , situated in Bandlaguda, Hyderabad, achieved a remarkable auction price of Rs. 1.26 crore, setting a new record.

The auction unfolded at the Richmond Villas Society in Suncity, where a group of women from the Society pooled their resources to secure this sweet treat. Last year, this very laddu had garnered Rs. 60.48 lakhs in the auction. The proceeds from this auction will be channeled towards charitable endeavors.

Meanwhile, the renowned 21-kg Balapur Ganesh laddu achieved an all-time high bid of Rs. 27 lakhs. This year, it was acquired in an open auction by Dasari Dayananda Reddy from Turkayamjal. His triumph was particularly sweet, as he had narrowly missed out on it last year. In 2022, a local farmer named V. Lakshma Reddy had purchased it for Rs. 24.60 lakhs.

The annual auction held in Balapur village marks the commencement of the annual Ganesh immersion procession. This procession traverses various parts of the city before culminating at the Hussain Sagar lake in Hyderabad’s heart.

The auction witnessed participation from a total of 35 bidders, including non-locals, under the watchful gaze of local leaders. Amid the resounding cheers of hundreds of devotees, participants engaged in an open auction for the laddu, a tradition believed to bring good fortune to the winners.

According to the Balapur Ganesh Utsav Samithi, which organizes the annual auction, the laddu was initially auctioned for a modest Rs. 450 in 1994. Kolanu Mohan Reddy was the successful bidder for five consecutive years, and this laddu fame and allure grew over time. Since it is believed to usher in prosperity for the victor, businessmen and politicians eagerly compete in the annual bidding. The winners not only share portions of the laddu with their families and friends but also distribute remnants across their agricultural fields, business establishments, and homes to invoke good luck and prosperity.
