Ghastly ORR accident leaves 3 dead, including Hyderabad Cybercrime ACP’s wife

In a tragic incident, two women and a man died after the car they were travelling in hit the road median on the way to Hyderabad. The dreadful accident took place on the Outer Ring Road with victims including the name of a top police official’s wife.

As per the police, the tragedy occurred during the return journey of a family travelling from Andhra Pradesh back to Hyderabad post attending a relative’s wedding. Amongst the 4 people present in the car, two women died on the spot due to the impact and another succumbed to his injuries while getting treated at the hospital.

The victims were identified as 48-year-old K. Shankaramma who was the wife of Hyderabad Cybercrime ACP KVM Prasad and her relatives- 48-year-old K. Balakrishna and his wife 42-year-old Renuka. Their son, 20-year-old K. Bhaskar, was also travelling along with them and is currently undergoing treatment after suffering serious injuries.

The accident took place in the early hours of Monday after the driver lost control of the car. They were coming from Medchal and crashed into the road median at Yadgarpally DRDO area of Keesara located in the outskirts of the city.

As per reports, Balakrishna who was driving the car after making their presence felt at Cheerala of AP’s Prakasam district for a relative’s wedding, could not gain stability of the vehicle since it was already moving at a high speed.

The front side of the car suffered the most damages where the two men were seated.

People passing by the area immediately called for an ambulance and informed the police after witnessing the accident. The Keesara cops arrived and recovered the bodies from the mangled car. While the dead were shifted to the hospital for post mortem, Balakrishna and Bhaskar were taken in for treatment where the former died due to his injuries.

Speaking about the accident and confirming the news, a police official said, “Both men were seated in the front and the women were in the back seat. Due to the impact, the front part of the car was heavily damaged. While both women suffered grievous bleeding injuries and died on the spot. Balakrishna died while under treatment in the hospital.”

The police are probing the case and the series of events that led to the incident. A case has been registered in the matter.

The ORR remains an accident-prone area since it was constructed. Despite several programmes to raise awareness, tragic incidents continue to linger its road, police said.

In April, two men travelling in a truck carrying a shrimp consignment on the ORR were charred to death after a collision with another vehicle from behind led to a fire in the front part. The bodies couldn’t be identified for some time as they were badly burnt.
