In a significant move to enforce regulations, Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) Commissioner Amrapali Kata has initiated strict actions against malls and multiplexes within GHMC limits for the illegal collection of parking fees.
Special teams conducted thorough checks and discovered that many malls, multiplexes, and cinema theatres in the city were unlawfully charging parking fees. According to regulations, parking should be free for customers with a purchase receipt. Despite this, several establishments were found flouting these rules.
“We have noted that many malls and theatres are charging parking fees against the regulations. Our inspections have revealed these illegal practices, and we are taking strict action,” said Commissioner Amrapali Kata.

Further irregularities were uncovered in the cinema sector. A theatre registered as a single screen was found to be operating multiple screens, violating its registration terms. Inspections also extended to food stalls within these establishments. Some places were found selling low-quality food items, posing potential health risks to customers.
Following the Commissioner’s directions, notices have been issued to the concerned malls and multiplexes for these irregularities. The GHMC’s firm stance underscores the commitment to maintaining regulatory compliance and ensuring consumer rights.
Commissioner Kata emphasized that the GHMC would continue to monitor these establishments and enforce the rules strictly. “We will not tolerate any breaches of the regulations. Regular inspections will be conducted to ensure that all establishments comply with the rules,” she stated.
The GHMC also urged the public to be aware of their rights and report any such violations. The Commissioner encouraged citizens to come forward with complaints to help the corporation maintain a fair and regulated environment for all.
The GHMC’s crackdown serves as a stern warning to all establishments within its jurisdiction to adhere to the set regulations, ensuring a safe and lawful environment for the citizens of Hyderabad.
