The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has taken measures to prepare for the monsoon season. A total of 618 dilapidated structures have been identified by the civic body, of which 201 have been demolished and 129 have been either repaired or sealed.
Accordingly, this year, GHMC instructed deputy city planners and assistant city planners to take immediate action against structurally unsound buildings and submit a compliance report.
In addition, they were required to carry out a detailed survey to identify dilapidated structures and take appropriate action. Also, the list will be forwarded to the engineering department for the preparation of a circle-by-circle list of such weak structures.
Dilapidated building owners will be notified of demolition or vacation of the structure or repairs. Furthermore, officials were instructed to develop an action plan for the special demolition drive.
Meanwhile, the GHMC has appealed to residents of dilapidated buildings to cooperate with its officials during the demolition and also to renovate the structurally weak buildings in order to safeguard lives and property.
