Hyderabad: GHMC council meeting scheduled for April 12

In addition to the special budget meeting, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) council meeting is scheduled to take place on April 12.

Council will be presented with the GHMC budget estimates for the financial year 2022-23 and revised estimates for the year 2021-22. GHMC’s standing committee approved a budget of Rs 6,150 crore for the financial year 2022-23 in March. Also approved was the Revised Budget Estimate for 2021-22, which has been raised to Rs 6,300.

The civic body officials are tasked with making necessary arrangements for the budget meeting and council meeting, while the police bandobust and security arrangements, including the deployment of marshals, are given to the directorate of Enforcement Vigilance and Disaster Management.

GHMC swimming pools remain closed

In the twin cities, when mercury levels start to rise every day, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) swimming pools used to be a relief for the citizens from the summer heat.

In spite of other sporting activities returning to pre-Covid levels, the GHMC swimming pools have not yet welcomed trainees. With the surge of Covid, the city saw the shutting down of its pools two years ago, and they have remained closed ever since.

Under GHMC, there are seven swimming pools in Secunderabad, Ameerpet, Amberpet, Sanath Nagar, Vijayanagar Colony, Moghalpura and Chandulal Baradari that are very popular. Several more will be under the civic body’s control soon.

Since these pools aren’t yet operational, many private swimming pools are taking advantage of the situation and overcharging trainers. It is disappointing to see that the GHMC pools have yet to be reopened for some trainers.

Before the pandemic, the swimming pool in Secunderabad hosted 700 to 800 swimmers every day on a regular basis. Despite this, it still sports a deserted look as it is not in use.
