GHMC Mayor presents ₹6150 crore annual budget

GHMC Mayor G. Vijaya Laxmi today presented the annual budget of the corporation for the 2022-23financial year. The budget is pegged at ₹6150 crore.

Presenting the budget, Vijaya Laxmi said the budget was prepared with an objective to make the city into a world-class city. She said revenue expenditure of the corporation would be ₹2,800 crores while revenue receipts would be ₹3,434 crores during the fiscal. She said the revenue surplus would be ₹634 crores during the fiscal. The capital receipts of the corporation would be ₹3,350 crores.

The Mayor said they were focusing on the development of basic infrastructure in the city in the new financial year. She termed the budget as a tool to solve the problems faced by the residents of the city. She said they were going to spend ₹1,500 crores on the construction of skyways, under passes, flyovers, and maintenance of the important roads. She also said they would spend ₹340 crores for the implementation of the Strategic Nala Development Program in the city. She said they had allocated ₹332.23 crores towards the green budget.

Taking part in the discussion on the annual budget, former mayor and MIM Corporator Mohammad Majid Hussain expressed his anger over the presentation of the budget after an inordinate delay. He expressed his shock over the functioning of the corporation officials without knowing the law. Referring to the allocation of ₹2,600 crores to the corporation by the State government during 2021-22 fiscal, he said not a single penny from the allotted sum was released to the corporation by the State government. He wondered why the officials of the finance department of the corporation not cornering the State government on the issue of the non-allocation of the funds? He took strong exception to the imposition of taxes on the residents of the corporation instead of seeking funds from the State government.
