GHMC Plans To Plant 40 Lakh Saplings Under Haritha Haram

GHMC Commissioner Dr B Janardhan Reddy, today said the GHMC was planning to plant some 40 lakh saplings under Telangana Harithaharam program this year by involving RWAs, NGOs and others for which the GHMC was supplying saplings free of cost.

The Commissioner appealed to the corporate and private companies to join hands with the GHMC for providing tree guards under CSR of which the details of specific tree guards and their information about the rate and other information can be obtained from the GHMC website and help the GHMC for taking up the plantation in a massive manner under the project. He also appealed the corporate companies and NGOs to take up Central Medians maintenance. The GHMC has 526 open places and action plan was being prepared to take up massive plantation on these open spaces. The GHMC had taken up plantation in the last two to three years where more than 90% survival rate has been observed, several other methods are also being taken care to ensure cent percent protection of the plants for the project.

On the fire incident occurred at Ranigunj in Secunderabad, the Commissioner said an inquiry has been ordered. After receiving the information about the fire mishap, the GHMC Disaster Management Teams rushed to the spot and plunged into rescue operation to safeguard the citizens at the site. The GHMC has taken up CC road repairing works at a cost of Rs 250 crore and a target has been fixed for completion of road repair works by the end of June. Road repairing works in the surrounding municipalities will be done in early hours and the GHMC has already obtained permission from the Traffic Police for taking up these works.

The Commissioner said so far the GHMC has removed 2.60 cubic meter of silt and the work was going on at fast pace compared to the last year. These works were being done throughout the year, he said, adding that in view of the rainy season if any problem arises the citizens may dial 100 for immediate solution to their grievances. The GHMC has issued notices to identified dilapidated buildings and some of them have also been evicted for demolition, the Commissioner said. With regard to development of 20 lakes, the officials are expediting the tender process to take up the works on priority, the Commissioner added. (NSS)
