GHMC to develop 29 model corridors in different parts of the city

The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) is developing 29 model corridors in different parts of the city as part of the government’s efforts to improve infrastructure. These corridors, which stretch for 21.53 km, are being built at a cost of Rs 56.82 crore.

According to GHMC, the model corridors will include a main carriageway adjacent to the central median, as well as another service road and a bicycle track. On service roads, a curb will separate cyclists from traffic, and model corridors will also include pavements, vending zones, a parking facility, and greenery.

The corridors will be built on both sides of the road from Habsiguda to Nagol, from LB Nagar to Owaisi junction until Aramgarh, and from NMDC to Gachibowli via Shaikhpet at a cost of Rs 568 crores. This infrastructure will be built on a 75-feet road on one side of the central median and the other side of the central median.

Similarly, if the road is 200 feet long, infrastructure will be built on a 100-feet road on one side of the central median, with a similar model on the other. Storm water drain infrastructure for these roads distinguishes them from the rest of the city’s roads.

The stormwater drains along the model corridors are designed to drain the water quickly, ensuring that the road is not damaged by water logging.

To achieve a signal-free city, flyovers, ROBs, underpasses, and grade-separate corridors are being built under SRDP (Strategic Road Development Programme) to reach the destination on time. Over 800km have been taken up by CRMP (Certified Risk Management Professional).

Depending on local needs, this model corridors will include wedding zones, service roads, parking, pedestrian facilities, and greenery. The tender process has already been completed, and some corridor work has begun, according to an officer.
