With the Hyderabad Road Development Corporation (HRDCL) preparing to build 104 new link roads in ten Urban Local Bodies (ULBs), the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has considered levying taxes on constructions along the slip roads.
Due to an increase in property owners eager to develop along slip roads, the civic body in conjunction with the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) have decided to make this decision. As part of its efforts to enhance connectivity and reduce traffic congestion, HRDCL has undertaken the construction of slip roads.
The 10 Urban Local Bodies are Bandlaguda Jagir, Ghatkesar, Kothur, Dammaiaguda, Nagaram, Badangpet, Shamshabad, Ibrahimpatnam, Manikonda, and Jawaharnagar municipal corporation.
After being reviewed by police commissionerates and public representatives, the 104 new link roads have been proposed to the government. Phases I and II of the development of 47 link roads have already been launched by HRDCL. Work on 31 of these roads has already been completed. The construction of 16 more is in progress.
In an effort to improve Hyderabad’s transportation system, the state government has decided to develop model corridors. The link roads will act as alternative distributors or parallel routes that will alleviate traffic on major corridors.
Due to the ever-growing population, the MAUD Department conducts a regular survey to determine ways to reduce vehicular traffic on main roads. Based on survey results and public opinion, the State government is developing alternative routes.
