The ‘mega discount offer’ offered by the police in the capital region drew a massive response, with officers from the Hyderabad, Cyberabad, and Rachakonda police limits clearing about 1.6 million pending traffic challans worth Rs.115 crore in just 20 days.
According to officials, 63 lakh traffic challans worth Rs.49.6 crore were cleared in the Hyderabad Police limits, while 38 lakh outstanding challans worth Rs.45.8 crore were cleared in the Cyberabad Police limits. 16 lakh pending challans worth Rs.17.6 crores were cleared in the Rachakonda boundaries, the largest commissionerate in terms of land and jurisdiction.
“The discount is being well received. It has undoubtedly been a benefit to motorists who had traffic challans piling up and were unable to pay due to the epidemic and other personal reasons,” a Rachakonda Traffic Police official said.
Vehicles with pending challans can be detained and booked for traffic rule infractions under the Motor Vehicle Act. If the pending challans are not cleared by the car owner, a charge sheet may be filed in court, and the court may imprison the person, according to officials.
“Our goal is to teach, not to levy fines.” There is a requirement for self-discipline. “We want motorists to be self-disciplined and responsible when driving on public roads,” said a Cyberabad Traffic officer, adding that individuals could check for any pending e-challans on the website https://www.echallan.org/publicview/ on a regular or daily basis.
If there were any concerns or issues about traffic citations, an appeal may be filed either online or offline. Such appeals would be verified by the technical team, and if the case was improper or incorrect, action would be made to eliminate such cases.

They added that any car found with 10 or more challans pending against it would be detained and additional legal action would be taken.
