Google seems to be on an update roll. Last week, the company announced a handful of new education features and is now updating their privacy and security defaults for the students using Chrome and accounts managed by the schools.

The updated age-based access settings will make it easier for the admin to customize their experiences for their users based on their age while using Google services.

With the new update, all the admins from the primary and secondary institutions must indicate which of their users like the teachers and staff are above the age of 18 and older who would be using the organisational units in Admin Console.

Under 18 Students Go Under School-Managed Restrictions

From September 1, students under the age of 18 in K-12 will only be able watch Youtube content assigned by their teachers. They won’t be able to post videos, comment, live stream using the google account managed by the school.

Similar restrictions will also be applied to search, google play (content restrictions), Maps/Earth and photos. However, the rest of the products are available restriction free.

However, if the admins don’t make a selected by September 1, 2021, all primary and secondary registered institutions users will get the default setting of the under 18 years experiences. And the higher education institutions will be received default settings to the 18 and older experiences.

Lastly, K-12 students using Chrome will see SafeSearch and SafeSites enabled by default, while Guest Mode and Incognito Mode will be disabled. And the admins will be able to change these settings at any time.
