Government Forms Special Committee to Reform Kakatiya University

In a bid to address the ongoing challenges faced by Kakatiya University, the Congress-led state government has formed a special committee tasked with preparing a Detailed Project Report (DPR) to propose reforms for the university’s administration. The move comes after the university, which has been at the center of several controversies, faced increasing calls for change from students, staff, and political leaders.

The newly formed committee is charged with identifying the university’s key issues and suggesting comprehensive solutions to improve various aspects of its operations. Among the primary concerns to be addressed are the lack of funding, unfilled teaching and non-teaching positions, stagnation in course offerings, encroachment on university land, irregularities in PhD admissions, student protests over inadequate hostel amenities, and allegations of corruption in the approval of bills for contractors.

This initiative follows a series of student protests and issues raised during the tenure of the previous BRS government. Notably, the then TPCC president, Revanth Reddy, had supported the protests against PhD admission irregularities and promised reforms once the Congress came into power. Now, as Chief Minister, he has taken concrete steps toward fulfilling that promise.

Under the Chief Minister’s directions, a team of 30 MLAs, including N Rajender Reddy and MP Kadiam Kavya, recently visited Kakatiya University to meet with university authorities and discuss the pressing issues. During their visit, the team instructed university officials to prepare a DPR that would address the university’s various needs and challenges.

In response, the government formed a special committee consisting of 16 prominent professors, led by Prof. V Ramachandram, Dean of the College Development Council. This committee is tasked with preparing proposals that will outline reforms and solutions to be implemented over the next five years.

A crucial meeting is scheduled for December 23, where MLAs and other elected representatives will review the DPR and offer suggestions for modifications. Once the committee incorporates the changes, the final DPR will be submitted to the state government for approval. Upon the Chief Minister’s approval, Kakatiya University is set to undergo significant reforms aimed at revitalizing the institution and addressing the challenges it has faced.

This proactive approach, which involves both political leaders and university officials, has been positively received by students and staff alike. The reforms are expected to bring much-needed improvements to the university’s administration, facilities, and overall functioning.
