Govt. ‘blown up the bugle’ of GHMC elections, appoints ‘Nodal Officers’

Blowing up the bugle for the proposed GHMC elections in the state capital – that considered as one of the thriving cosmopolitan cities in the country, the Government has finally gave its nod for the preparation of battleground with the appointments of Nodal Officers for all the 30 circles consist of 135 wards in the city and its surroundings

It is learned that during a meeting held a few hours earlier at GHMC head office today to discuss the arrangement and preparations for the proposed civic body elections, the Election Authority and Commissioner Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), D.S.Lokesh Kumar has announced the appoint of Nodal Officers for all the 30 circles under his area of authority. Additional Commissioners and department heads in the GHMC have been nominated as Nodal Officers.

Arrangements such as preparation of electoral roll, printing, voter enumeration, recruitment of returning / assistant returning officers, recruitment of master trainers, training of polling staff, election material procurement, IT-related arrangements, webcasting, Recruitment of enforcement teams to implement code of conduct, polling material distribution, reception, identification of counting centers, design of facilities, appointment of micro-observers, identification of polling stations, facilities, compliant cell, call center, media certification, monitoring cell, payment news verification, voter mobilization sweep programs etc was come up for the discussion.

All the newly appointed nodal officers were told to prepare action plans according to responsibilities they were conferred with before releasing of election notification by the state election commissioner. They were also instructed to strictly adhere to the orders of the state election commission while performing their duties during the poll process. They were also told to constitute teams to supervise the arrangements made for the smooth conduct of the polling in heir respected jurisdictions.

As the prevailing situation is grappling with the pandemic, the election authority & Commissioner GHMC D.S.Lokesh Kumar said that “Recruiting, training of polling staff would be done as per the instructions of the state election commission.

However, there is an ‘elephant in the room’ as the current turmoil created out of issues like lack of proper arrangement to arrest the COVID-19 pandemic, pending LRS registration recently announced by the government, and hold up the process of registration of plots especially in the GHMC limits are yet to be addressed that have actually put the residents of the cosmopolitan city on tenterhook.
