Govt Sanctions Rs.10.9 Cr for Families of Toddy Tapping Victims

Hyderabad: Tourism and Excise Minister V Srinivas Goud today said that the TRS Government has sanctioned Rs 10.9 crore towards payment of ex-gratia to family members of gouda persons who died till 2018 in Telangana state while tapping toddy trees.
Speaking to media persons in the Assembly premises here, the minister accused the earlier congress and TD governments in a combined state of failing to provide any help to Gowda and other communities.
He asserted that the government is committed for the welfare and development of all professional communities in the state. The minister said that the KCR Government has increased compensation amount to such kin of Gowda victims to Rs 5 lakh from Rs 2 lakh. The amount will be given away to the kin of deceased Gowda persons in the state till Dec 2018,  he said.
Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao has been taking all steps towards the welfare of the professional communities in the state. The amount will be given to Gowda families if their breadwinners die unfortunately during their regular work of toddy tapping.
He said that there was no guarantee of ex-gratia during the Congress regime and now the kin of gowdas are getting the same immediately,  he said. “We have increased compensation from Rs 50000 to Rs 5 lakh for the gowdas if they become handicapped permanently through an accident in their profession,” he said.
This benefit will be given from March 2017 through a GO issued as per the KCR directive. The minister said that the state government has so far disbursed Rs 15 crore to 3497 families in the state. “I thank the Chief Minister for monetary help to the gowdas”,  he added.
